"From the 9th to 12th of June, twenty artists come together at the Candid Arts Trust to contribute to the voice of queer erotica in the group exhibition ‘Queer Sex’. Featuring work across a variety of disciplines, a connection is formed between the young artists’ work by its intimacy, self-exploration and self-reflection.
From personal practitioners to recent work from Central Saint Martins and Camberwell College of Arts students, they present their fantasies, questionings, and selves.
This exhibition recognises queerness and sex as influential forces in fine arts. It invites the audience to discover the wide range of personal reflections on queer sensuality presented by fresh and forward-thinking artists.
This exhibition will contribute to a queer visual vocabulary of erotica. With LGBTQ+ representation becoming more widespread, our queerness - our identities, our fantasies & our practices - is at times sacrificed or fetishised in an appeal to acceptance.
Shucking off this approach, ‘Queer Sex’ lays bare how our lives (within ourselves and others) push social and sexual boundaries. Across a diverse range of artistic mediums, the artists celebrate, mourn and conceive their sex lives and selves.
‘Queer Sex’ will create a platform from which to value forms of erotica that not only invite a queered gaze but incite a deeper connection to the whispered meanings of self and sensuality."
